Life is creation continuing
-- life from the lighted surfaces of seas evolving,
form after form appearing,
vanishing
-- life so ancient that sediments which death left in the seas
and which earth's
upheavals folded into rising continents,
now from peak and precipice
confront the wind and sun
-- life forever fluidly passing its earlier, cruder forms,
forever through
its new forms, both of the miracle, mutation,
pressing with
delicate filaments against harsh and hostile barriers
seeking always
the edge of the unknown --
