David Brower's 92 nd Birthday

DAVID BROWER DAY:

David Brower, an East Bay native and legendary environmentalist, has been credited with putting nature on the political landscape. He was responsible for leading successful campaigns that resulted in the creation of nine national parks and seashores, the preservation of a Grand Canyon free of dams, and huge swaths of pristine public lands set aside as wilderness. He inspired four generations of environmental activists around the world, for whom he served as mentor and role model. As the architect of the Sierra Club's activities in the 1950s and 1960s, co-founder of the League of Conservation Voters, founder of Friends of the Earth and Earth Island Institute, David Brower's influence on efforts for the environment and American politics in the 20th century was second to none. By engaging the public in a hands-on opportunity to provide CPR for the Earth (Conservation, Preservation, and Restoration), we celebrate the life of this local and global hero.
