A Memorial Celebrating The Spirit of His Life

Robert Brower passed away unexpectedly on October 11, 2004, at Kaiser Hospital in Oakland.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Ann; his sister, Barbara; brothers, Ken and John; Uncle, Joseph and Aunt, Gayle; his nephew and nieces, and numerous cousins. He was loved and respected by many and will be missed forever.

Bob Brower was born in Berkeley, the second of four children born to pioneer environmentalist David Ross Brower and Anne Hus Brower, an editor at the University of California.

After graduating from Berkeley High School, Robert attended Laney College where he earned his certificate in Robotics. Much later, he attended Stanford University's Cyber School to refine his web design skills. He started a successful website, wildnesswithin.com, to carry on his father's work.

Nature, photography, and music were in his soul. They permeated the depth of his being. Bob spent his leisure time hiking, bicycling, drumming, taking photos and playing the piano. He was blessed with seemingly robust health until his last earthly day.

Bob cherished his friendships, especially that of his brother, John. As a fiercely private person, Mr. Brower valued those relationships that allowed others to truly know him. He considered his friends and the families at the South Berkeley YMCA Learning Academy to be his extended family. He leaves a legacy of grace and elegance.
